Msgr. Thomas Richter - Rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit

 

Background

Msgr. Tom Richter is one of fourteen children raised on a dairy farm near Bismarck, ND.  He received his theological seminary formation at North American College and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.  He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Bismarck on June 13, 1996.

 

Service

Msgr. Tom has served as the Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit.  He has served as Pastor of St. Mary’s in South Heart, Sts. Peter and Paul in New Hradec, St. Bernard’s in Belfield, St. Mary’s in South Heart, St. Mary’s in Medora, St. Pius V in New Salem, and St. Mary’s in Almont.  He has also served as a Priest-in-Residence at St. Anne’s in Bismarck.
 
Msgr. Richter is currently serving as the Director of Vocations and Vicar for Deacons for the Diocese and as the Rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit (since 2012).  He is also currently serving on the Executive Board of the National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors.

 

Other Service

He has served as a senior religion instructor at both St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck and Trinity High School in Dickinson.  He has lived on St. Joseph’s Hall for Men at the University of Mary.  He is the author of two discernment booklets: Is Jesus Calling You to be a Catholic Priest and Lend Your Own Voice to Christ.
